About This Recipe

The best time to make this marinara sauce with fresh tomatoes is towards the end of the summer when tomatoes are at their peak.  If you have never tried making your own marinara, this easy recipe will have you hooked on just how much better it is than store bought.

Make a big batch and freeze or can it so you will have the freshest marinara right at your hands all year long!  Tomato season only comes once a year, so make the most of it!

Let’s Talk About the Ingredients:

  • Tomatoes - Roma tomatoes are ideal for marinara, as they are a meaty tomato with a flavorful flesh.

  • Garlic - fresh garlic is a must as it produces an amazing roasted flavor to the marinara

  • Basil and Oregano - use fresh if possible as they will create a lovely flavor when roasted

  • Olive Oil - produces a great flavor to the finished sauce.

  • Balsamic Vinegar - this vinegar rounds out the overall flavor of the sauce with a distinctive bold essence

  • Salt and Pepper: intensifies the flavors of the marinara
