Sandwich Your Statement
How do you take a graphic t-shirt and make it really stand out as a statement piece? SANDWICH IT! Here in these pictures I wanted to make a statement out of my XOXO shirt, available here in my store. I chose to use RED as my “bread” for the sandwich. If I would have left off the red bandana and just wore the red pants, it would have looked nice, but it wouldn’t have made my t-shirt stand out the way I wanted it to. I could also have worn it with jeans to make a very CASUAL look, but again it wouldn’t have focused the attention to the message on my t-shirt. That’s why we wear graphic t-shirts, isn’t it? We have a MESSAGE to convey, no matter what the wording or picture. We want someone to KNOW (even if it’s just a reminder to yourself) something we like or believe in. It may be a funny message, it may be a concert t-shirt, it may say WHO you are (baseball mom, grandma, etc.), but it’s always INTENTIONAL.
I wanted to show you with this sandwich METHOD how you can really turn the focus onto your message. And as you can SEE with the red bandana and pants, it turns the t-shirt up a notch to be a casual dress outfit instead of just casual.
Using this method also changes the MOOD of your outfit, transforming it into a true STATEMENT outfit, instead of a statement piece. As with any message we want to relay, it’s important to do it in a classy way. Not an in-your-face, but a gentle, yet PRONOUNCED message with class. This is an example of how you can take a style (in this case a graphic t-shirt) and choose the rest of your outfit AROUND it, to draw attention to it without neon flashing lights to draw attention to the message.
Have you ever considered your outfit to be a sandwich? You really can make a statement with style . . . with a sandwich. It’s like CHOOSING an order at the counter of a burger joint or choosing a “sit down and have a server take your order” burger joint. Both can be delicious, but one makes you feel a little EXTRA special.
As always, be COMFORTABLE in whatever you choose to wear, and always MINDFUL of the message you are sending out with your graphic t-shirt. How PROFOUND do you want to make your message? If it’s important, try the sandwich method!
